If you are into SEO and have followed a number of link building strategies, chances are you have experienced the chilling and punitive effect of Google sending your site into the abyss of “Davy Jones’ Locker”.

This happens when all of your link building and site building efforts are instantly “up in smoke” – you are in Google’s permanent sandbox, and all your important pages (home page, money pages) have suddenly vanished into thin air in the search results, and what is even more irritating, you have no way to retrieve it…. Until now!

When you have spent a lot of time and effort developing a website and you are suddenly thrown into Google’s abyss, it can be very disheartening. Time and money has been lost.

While everyone who is seriously into seo has experienced this, I am actually thankful that Google punishes webmasters who are “link building spammers,” people who try to artificially manipulate the search engines by blasting links anywhere and everywhere.

What do you when you have been too aggressive in your link building campaign and your website is in Davy Jones’ Locker?

Here is a 14 step strategy to get your website out of Google’s Sandbox and back into the SERP’S (search engine result pages)

While this list seems like a full days work, if you have a great domain name with good PR, and you are sandboxed, the effort is well worth it.

Halt all link building efforts to your domain
Change your Title tags. Example, instead of the title “Product Name Review,” rename it to “Product Name – Product Name Review”
Change Meta Description tag.
Change your Meta Keywords
Change your Author or User Profile Name
Change your Footer text keywords (Example, instead of “Copyright 2010 Keyword Here,” rename it to “Copyright 2010 A Related Keyword Here.”
Change your
and
tags inside your content
Change image alt and title tags
If you have a videositemap, change your video file name (videoname.mp4)to another keyword.
Important – change every slug url of your postings/pages (easily done with a wordpress blog using “Quick Edit” feature.
When you have made changes 1-10, continue to add backlinks ‘naturally.’
When you have made changes 1-10, continue to add new content to your website – at least 2-3 new postings per week.
Rebuild your Sitemap with new page/post url’s – if you have a wordpress blog, then this is easily done by going to Settings/XML Sitemap, and clicking on Rebuild Sitemap. If you have a static html site with a sitemap, then you can manually change the url’s in the sitemap.xml with your new url’s using a free editor like notepad plus.
Resubmit site sitemap, video sitemap, and images sitemaps to Google Webmaster Tools.

After you rebuild your sitemap, and if your site is not jolted back into the search engines, then submit a request to Google to reconsider indexing your site. Tell them what happened, and steps you have taken to rectify the issues.

If you are using a wordpress blog, then you will have to go into each page/post and make your changes, as well as change your SEO Pack settings.

While it is true that the Google knows your IP, this method will have a “shock and awe” to the substance of your website in Google’s eyes and your site can become favorable once again in Google’s eyes and can even reappear at the #1 position if that is where your site was before you were sent to the Davy Jones’ Locker.

Let me share with you a little secret about internet marketing, and in particular, internet marketers and their products….

Ready?

Some of these internet marketing products, and the marketer behind the product, are flat out duds, re-hashed garbage, and downright scams.

Okay, okay, I said it…but let me back up….

There are many good and great marketers who over deliver, who are unique and offer a tremendous amount of value. Most of the great internet marketers are smaller in name, but there are a few big name one’s too.

I would venture to say that the 80/20 rule applies. Eighty percent of internet marketing products that are launched are garbage, and some of these are downright scams.

Recognizing a scam or garbage product is even harder when a band of guru’s are promoting it. It happens all the time. It is happening right now.

Without any more rattling…here are “The Signs Of A Internet Marketing Scam Product.”

1. Use Of The Product Launch Formula Method -

Jeff Walker is the originator of today’s product launch formula. While a great concept, and no doubt has made some people millions in revenue, it has a fatal flaw.

Jeff’s methods focuses on making money for the product owner and affiliates, and leaves out the customer. Obviously, Jeff would say that he only endorses quality products, and no doubt he does. But what is happening today is that more effort and more money is spent into the pre-launch sequence (graphics, video, salescopy), than in the delivery of a top notch product.

Understandably, top notch products using the Product Launch Formula is a good thing, but what we are seeing now is simply outrageous. My inbox is flooded. I zone right out. Everyone and anyone is doing a product launch.

I have become numbed by the Product Launch Formula.

The Product Launch Formula’s fatal flaw is that it is designed to create a lot of hype (and I mean a lot) in the marketplace in the anticipation of a launch date.

Why is this a fatal flaw? Because…

People Buy Products On Emotions, Not Reason, And Over Time Everyone Becomes Numbed By It’s Methods

Now, the greater the hype, the greater my scam alert bells start to ring. At first, I fell victim. Now, it has turned me into a skeptic of every email headline that comes in. You too?

There has been a few great products with a tremendous amount of hype that delivered in content, but that is the exception not the norm.

2. A High Ticket “Info” And “No Personal Mentoring” Product

Why are all the big name guru’s now charging $2,000 for a info product? It started off with Frank Kern (the trailblazer) and his inner circle, and now I see it every month.

I don’t mind a $2,000 entry price, and yes, I have seen a $2k product that was worth every dollar, but what is happening now is that anyone with a internet marketing name is wanting to get into this high ticket game and we are seeing material that is straight out of a “Marketing 101 and 201″ college text book. Seriously.

Today we see both warning signs: high ticket products who are using the Product Launch Formula. As was stated above, some of these product launches put more effort and money into the pre-launch and launch day sales materials to get you to buy, than on the product itself. And it is disheartening.

Have you seen the sales contests prizes on some of these high ticket and high hype product launches recently? Top affiliates are winning expensive sports cars, all expense paid trips, diamonds, etc…, and this is on top of commissions.

When I see all these commissions and prizes been given out…I always ask myself the question: “Is there anything in this for the buyer?”

Or maybe I’m wanting a million dollar launch myself, and I’m simply bitter about it? Could be .

Heck, I wouldn’t mind winning a sports car .

3. A Secret/Hidden “Formula” Type Salesletter -

I love this one the best.

There is one of these going around right now. The salescopy reports a hidden source of traffic, and software. Well, the bottom line is, it is not a hidden source of traffic, it is an old source, and you can learn all about it here for $7. The software that is talked about goes against the terms of Facebook (oh ya, the other billion traffic secret source..lol), and will surely and eventually get your account into trouble.

What is enlightening is that big name marketers email on this promotion in the attempt to “make money” off of their list. If they truly were looking after their list, they would not be telling people to go against facebooks ads terms of service, and that a hidden source of traffic is not really a hidden source at all, but an old source. If I tell you that I have a hidden source of traffic, sell you a $47 product, and you find out it is putting banner ads on http://www.workopolis.com, would you be impressed? I would not. What do you think? Agree, disagree? (write a comment)

Onsite List Building Methods: Free High Converting Popup

If you are wanting to build your list with “like minded” people, and they are visiting your website, then you, then you want to do everything that you can to get them on your list before they leave.

Some people get annoyed with seeing popup after popup. I’ve seen some who have 3-4 exit popups…one after the other.

Ya, it is pretty annoying if there is too much hassle just to leave a site, but what the heck…they are leaving anyways, so you may as well try and get them to optin….right?

Perhaps wrong. What we are starting to see is “exit harassment.” Okay, I just coined that phrase….

What I recommend is a respectful optin and exit strategy that puts the optin and squeeze offer “front and center,” but it doesn’t take 20 clicks just to leave your site. Poor returning website visitors: they always are presented with this “exiting harassment.” If you are wanting a ‘one time visit,’ perhaps maybe (I never actually look at the offers of all those annoying offers…do you?), but with a site that gets visited again and again by the same person…forget it.

Here is a few cool strategies. If you visit my site right now at Network Online Secrets, you will see two scripts: a popup optin script that shows up when you move your mouse to the top of your browser, and a exit script that shows when you actually click to leave the site. I think is cool, but anything more than this is annoying.

Obviously, you need a good autoresponder. I have both Getresponse and Aweber, but I like GetResponse better because I find their user interface is easier to understand, although both are very reliable and very low rates.

There are other methods that I personally use, and after much testing, have found these work great for me.

Use a Exit Splash Page script with a free incentive to subscribe
Put a optin box in the sidebar, and on front page, of your blog
Use a footer slidein to popup after a few seconds with an incentive to subscribe
Use a comment script that automatically subscribes people to your list when they make a comment to your blog posting
If you use video on your site, you can put a optin form at the end of the video presentation using Easy Video Player (yes, inside your video display area).

If you are serious about building your list, these are some pretty cool tools:

Exit Splash by Dave Guindon – This is so powerful. You can add a exit page and offer a free giveaway, or a downsell, and invitation to a webinar, etc.. Pretty much every serious online marketer is using this today.
Ultimate Footer Ad 2.0 – I absolutely love this script, simply because it is so subtle and works awesome. You will see it on a few of my website. It is easy to install, and you simply copy/paste the code before the closing ‘body tag’ of your site, and you are set up.
Viral Inviter Tell A Friend Script – Norman Freeman has the best Tell-a-Friend script, and if you want viral explosion in your list building campaigns, then this certainly will help you.

There are many other scripts out there, but these are the most stable, most widely used, and will do the job.

While there are many articles on how to get backlinks and traffic by posting a comment on a blog, there are not many on the seo benefits of your own blog’s comments section.

In this article I will give to you my opinion on the benefits of your blog commenting section, and how you can make your comment section seo friendly.

1. Your blogs commenting section allows your readership and subscribers to have a point of contact with the blog owner as well as with each other.

This benefit alone is huge. Here are a few key points to help you grow your online business.

If your online business is transactional based and you just want to sell a ‘one-time’ product to a customer, or all you want is adsense clicks on your site, then ‘Content Is King.” But…

If you want to build a “internet marketing” business with a loyal subscriber and customer list, then content is not king – ‘Relationship Is King!’

Your blogs commenting section helps you bring a community feel to your business, and allows others to feel and see that they are not alone in seeking your advice.

2. The search engines love dynamic sites that are frequently updated. With comments being added to your blog, your site is constantly being updated by others .

By default, the wordpress comment section is ‘nofollow,’ meaning that when someone places their link in your blogs comments section, it passes no pagerank.

This really is a debatable point, and what you do will depend on your business model. By turning your blogs comment section into a ‘dofollow’ you will attract a lot more comments, while giving away pagerank at the same time.

For my business model, this is a “dofollow’ blog for my comments because I am more concerned about relationships than about pagerank. I feel that the benefits far exceed the negatives.

How To Protect Your Affiliate Commissions From Product Vendors

Greetings my fellow online marketers, I have a very important tip for you today….

How You Literally Get Ripped Off By A Product Vendors Marketing Funnel…And What You Can Do About It!

If you are into affiliate marketing and you are trying to sell a product for a vendor, no matter what niche you are into, it is very important to examine the product vendors marketing funnel.

Why?

Because you may be getting ripped off by the product vendor, intentionally and non-intentionally.

This really stirs me up. I work hard with affiliate promotions, and I know you do as well. We spend our money, and use our precious time, sending our leads and traffic to affiliate promotions.

It is rather irritating when you send traffic and leads (which will never be returned) to a marketing funnel that is simply not paying you your rightful dues.

Here is a case in point….

Steve Clayton and Tim Godfrey, with Kate Anderson, are launching InfoProdigy. Let us examine their marketing funnel and see if there are ways we are losing commissions, while Tim and Steve are gaining 100% commissions…from our subscribers and traffic.

Okay, open up that pdf, and scroll down to page 18 of that report.

Are you there? Great, because there is a link in this pdf.

Do you see it?

In other words, Tim and Steve want you to send them traffic to a squeeze page so they can get your lead on their list, and then your lead is to download their free report that has a link to one of their products which you get absolutely zero commission on, even if it is unintentional (which it most likely is).

(once again, I don’t mind sending traffic to a guru’s squeeze page, but only if they will reciprocate to my squeeze page in return).

The link in the InfoProdigy free report, page 18, is for another product by Steve and Tim called IMEye.org (yes, that is my affiliate link too) that sells for $197 per month. Here is the JV page, and affiliates make 50% on it…, but you will make ZERO when your leads click on the link in this report…unless you do something ninja.

Another way you will most likely loose commissions is on the Thank You page.

The “Thank You page” is prime real estate for upsells, but you’ll never see any of the commissions. What is more, the product vendor will get his “inner circle” buddy’s to put their offers on his Thank You page, and the dialogue goes something like this….

“Hey ‘inner circle’ product owner buddy, my name is Guru XYZ, and my list is 250,000 subscribers. I will email for your launch, but I also want to put one of my own products (perhaps a free offer with a upsell) on your thank you page, and if they buy, you’ll get an affiliate commission on it. That’s right, you’ll get a commission. The original affiliate that sent us this lead in the first place won’t make a dime, but you’ll make money again and again from it.”

That in a nutshell is what happens…, the guru’s make 100% commissions on some front end and backend products in the marketing funnel on a promotion we are sending traffic to. Crazy eh?

So, as affiliate marketers, what do we do when faced with this type of intentional and non-intentional rip off?

Here are some ideas…

Examine the full marketing funnel of a product you are promoting, from the front end to the backend, including their Thank You page.
If the product vendor has a pdf that he wants you to send traffic to but you get paid ZERO from the links inside, ask the vendor to rebrand the pdf using a software like Viral PDF (awesome tool). Ask him to send you the .doc file and you can even rebrand it yourself if the vendor is too busy.
If there are frontend and backend products that you are not getting paid on with YOUR leads, and the vendor is making 100% commission with YOUR leads and traffic, then you have to make a decision.

Do you do ethical cookie stuffing (I’m sure I’ll get a few comments on that phrase)?

3 Traits To Look For In A Internet Marketing Mentor

Do you have a internet marketing mentor?

Without a mentor, you are dead in the water before you begin.

Sure, there are those who rise above without a mentor, but these types are the exception to the norm and usually succeed in any occupation they enter.

There are normally 3 types of internet marketing mentors:

Mentors who are making a significant income online themselves
Mentors who have trained others on how they make money online
Mentors who have trained others, and those students have in fact made a significant amount of money online from the direct tutelage of the mentors.

The internet marketing community is flooded with #1 and #2.

Someone discovers a “system” that makes them money online (it is nothing new, but just new to them). They decide to put together a “how to make money online” product showing people their strategies. They get some testimonials from buddies, they put it on clickbank or paydotcom to sell, and then finally they lure some affiliates and jv partners to promote so that they can make more money. This in a nutshell is what 99% of people do who call themselves a mentor, and people flood to them for support and training.

There is even a sobering dark side by some….

(true story) In fact, I have seen huge guru’s promote products like this to their list where the product is not even real, but is written by a ghost writer, and his testimonial on the salespage was completely bogus. I wrote this guru a email, and he could not understand why I questioned his integrity to his subscribers. (I then discovered his own product was being promoted on the Thank You page…yuk).

Then there are mentors who make a lot of money, and who have also trained others who are making a lot of money. These are the one’s we want to look at.

What Are The 3 Major Traits Of A Internet Marketing Mentor?

1. An internet marketing mentor is highly focused in his/her business systems

It does not take long to spot a “money grab” marketer and a “true internet marketing mentor.”

If your internet marketing mentor is “all over the map,” and sending you information to buy on clickbank marketing, then ebay marketing, then mobile marketing, then amazon marketing, cpa marketing, ppv marketing, then blah, blah, blah…, and they have never done it themselves with these methods, then this mentor is all over the map, and is leading you down a rose garden path that ends with thorns & thistles with you being broke, busted, and disgusted.

My advice: Get on some email lists, whether they be super affiliates, or smaller internet marketers, and over time you’ll see if they are focused or all over the map in their tutelage. Look for a mentor that is highly focused in his/her business systems.

2. An internet marketing mentor is “independent” in his/her ability to make money online

The majority of large marketers and so called “guru’s” are like dependant infants, not able to stand on their own two feet. They seek “inner circle” partnerships and the only way they make money is when a jv inner circle partner emails to their list.

This “dependency” marketer is like a leech, and offers no true mentoring value other than the ability to teach you to kiss someone’s buttocks. They are not able to teach you ‘in the trenches’ internet marketing because frankly, they know nothing about it.

Additionally, they will never let you inside their inner circle, and so because of their own insecurities and greediness, they will force you not to rise to their own level of income.

I can remember chatting on skype with a large so called guru, who claims to be making $50,000 per month. All their money and sales comes from launching products and the inner circle promoting to one another. I asked this person, “Have you ever made money ‘in the trenches’ by driving traffic to an offer via search engine optimization, adwords, blogging, or social media marketing?”

The answer was NO. And this person even has a high end coaching club where he mentors others to make money online. I’m still scratching my head wondering what material he has swiped and stolen to teach his members all about online marketing.

My advice: Make sure you are being mentored by someone who is genuine, and not caught up in the “inner circle” crap game.

3. A internet marketing mentor will challenge you…even at the cost of losing you as a student

If you apply the 80/20 rule, one can assume that only 20% of the people will do the work required to make a significant income online. If we are talking about executive wages, the percentage is even less. I would guess that only 2%-5% make a decent living online.

What happens to the other 95% who fail, or simply limp along? Well, they keep “hoping, and learning, and giving, and pushing, and buying, and doing, and spending,” but never really make it. Much of this is self imposed failure, but a large part of it also has to do with the fact that they picked a crappy mentor to follow who neither challenged them, nor taught them internet marketing.

A true mentor, when chatting with you, will not hold back any punches in teaching you. He/she will be candid about your skill set, what you need to work on and improve, and if you are simply lazy, they will tell you to get off your rear end and work. Plain and simple.

You see, a fake mentor will want to keep you in the dark, because frankly, they don’t know what to tell you, and all they want you to do is buy more stuff from them.

My advice: Follow someone who will speak truthfully to you. Only when you are faced with the realities of your situation you will be able to rise above them.
