Best Blogging Platform: Windows Live Writer and Thesis Theme 1.8

by

Thesis Theme just released version 1.8b1 and it has a total integration with using Windows Live Writer as a blog publishing tool. Since I am a Firefox user, and not a Internet Explorer user, I was a bit reluctant to even install Windows Live Writer.

But boy, am I glad I did….

The theme that I use here is the Thesis Theme, obviously.

The Thesis theme offers total SEO Integration. You do not need a SEO Pack plugin, All-In-One SEO or Platinum SEO Pack. The Thesis Theme offers you the best seo features of any theme I have come across…and I have come across many.

Now, with Live Writer, making a blog post has never been easier, and check out all the Live Writer plugins you can add:

Make sure that when you are using Thesis theme, you enable Windows Live Writer in the Site Options menu, as shown in the image below.

I’ve tried LiveWriter before but didn’t see much appeal. Perhaps I’ll check it out again.

I have used Thesis for some time now and love it (especially with hooks) I am also a great lover of Windows Live Writer, but for some reason WLWriter has developed a fault!! Every time I try to add blog account I get the error -
Windows Live Writer has encountered a problem: Font ‘Segoe UI’ does not support style ‘Regular’..
Segoe UI is installed but I have never used it nor requested it, I have tried Live support but no answers. Has anybody ever experienced this.

I have tried other blog editors but WLW is way out in the lead as far as remote editing goes by far.

many thanks Mark

What an awesome tool mark, you never cease to come up with excellent free content for your readers. Ps the plugins look amazing for the software also, I`m a firefox man myself, but got to seriously have a look at this, thanks.
Best Mike.

Very helpful article on WLW. Just setting up WLW to work with Thesis, however, how do you do the SEO in WLW (description, keywords) without logging into Wordpress and adding it in Thesis there?

At bottom of WLW there is a place to enter your tags. For SEO Packs, you have to do that manually. What I usually do is just post it as draft. Then go into wordpress to enter seo pack information.

Hi Mark.. Interesting to see now that windows live is teaming up with wordpress, which will really open up the box for customizations. What is your take on this?

LiveWriter works with most blogs, including Wordpress.com or private hosted sites, using ANY theme. I run over 100 wordpress sites for clients with dozens of different themes and theme vendors. They ALL work with MS Livewriter seamlessly and have done for years. No extra plugins or special themes needed to do this. Just ensure under wordpress settings-writing area you turn on “Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols” checkbox.

It is interesting the Microsoft have scrapped their own proprietary spaces blog technology, in favor of the superior open source WordPress!
